Dear [recipient name will go here], I am writing to you to draw attention to the crisis in post-secondary education. Students in Ontario, especially university students, still pay some of the highest tuition fees in the country. With the Conservative government’s cuts to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) and the lack of substantial public funding for post-secondary education, students are struggling to complete their education. In addition to funding cuts, the “Student Choice Initiative” has negatively impacted the post-secondary experience. It is an attempt to destroy student run and led organizations, student life, crucial cost-saving services and advocacy work that many students rely on. Students in Ontario need a government that works for them, not against them. I am calling on all elected Members of Provincial Parliament to endorse and implement the calls to action by the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario. I urge you to: 1. Reverse the cuts to OSAP; 2. Eliminate the Student Choice Initiative; 3. Increase Public Funding for Public Post-Secondary Education; and 4. Eliminate Tuition Fees for ALL students. Students need a high-quality, publicly funded post-secondary education system that provides more grants instead of loans and that protects students’ right to organize. I implore you to act now. Sincerely, [your name will go here] [your email address will go here] [your location will go here]
