Our state and region are facing two related threats. One is a public health crisis, the other is an economic crisis at a scale much larger than the Great Recession. Unfortunately, I’ve been hearing rumors of giant budget cuts to critical services that so many Washingtonians rely on.
 
As your constituent, I’m asking you to take immediate, impactful, and inclusive action to oppose critical budget cuts and ensure that everyone gets the support they need. Together, we can ensure a swift economic recovery that benefits everyone – not just the wealthiest in our state.
 
A recent study from the Economic Policy Institute found that states that made regressive budget cuts after the 2008 Great Recession recovered more slowly and led to greater income inequality, which hurts every one of us who aren’t wealthy Washingtonians.
 
If we don’t get this right now – the results are sadly predictable: Economic recovery will take longer and be harder on the very people that are already struggling to cope with an unprecedented crisis. Washington needs to be a state that invests in its people, not one that demands we sacrifice our future so that the wealthy and powerful don’t have to.
 
We need action if we're going to save our economy. That’s why I am calling on you to enact economic intervention policies that are immediate, impactful, and inclusive.
 
Simply put, we need to get money in the pockets of families and small businesses that are being stretched thinner and thinner with each passing day. No solution should be off the table – except slashing the budget.
